King Abdulaziz University Hospital Clinical Skills Center Awarded 1st Place in the

"Saudi Health Simulation Conference 2015"

 

Under the auspice of the Minister of Health Eng. Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih, the 2015 Saudi Health Simulation Conference was launched under the slogan “Future Directions in Saudi Arabia” that was organized by the Ministry of Health and was held in Al Faisaliah Hotel, Prince Sultan Grand Hall in Riyadh. The conference is the first competitive contest involving health teams al over the region. The conference’s aims were to develop interest by means of learning different skills to increase efficiency and production capacity; to enhance patient safety in various health facilities; to demonstrate  the mechanisms of various clinical simulation software; to evaluate the training results for all groups; and to encourage the use of simulation in medical education.

 

The conference opened with a recitation of Holy Quran. After the recitation, a speech was delivered by Dr. Mansoor Al-Yami, General Manager of Training and Scholarship; Chairman of the Organizing Committee. Followed by a speech by Dr. Abdulaziz Boker in which he explained the importance of holding the 2015 Saudi Health Simulation Conference. He also stressed that this conference shall meet the growing demand by the ministry and other health authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia such as Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, Ministry of Education in the field of simulation. Dr. Boker also expressed his sincere thanks to the higher committee, organizing committee, and scientific committee of the conference for their tremendous effort in organizing the conference. And on behalf of the Minister of Health, the Deputy Minister for Planning and Development of Human Resource, Dr. Imad Jahdali, stated that the conference is based in three key-points which are: 1. The use of simulation as the international standards of training. 2. Identifying the national priorities for medical training in the Kingdom in order to raise the level of patient safety. 3. To provide a plan of action to be rendered to optimize the use of simulation techniques.

 

During the conference, contested were organized among the medical and health teams for the duration of two (2) days with the participation of various universities and health facilities in order to promote the use of simulation in medical training. Winners of the contest were announced and the Clinical Skills Department at the Faculty of Medicine in King Abdulaziz University won the first place, King Fahd Medical City got second place, and King Saud bin Abdulaziz National Guard for Health Sciences got third place.
