About the Department
About the Department and its Objectives
The Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, was established in 1395 AH (1975 AD) with the rise of the college and its foundation. It is one of 22 departments in the Faculty of Medicine.
Since its establishment, the department has been teaching and training undergraduate students in medicine and surgery by offering the following courses: basic pharmacology, and pharmacology lectures in the organ systems, during the second and third academic years.
department also established a master's program in pharmacology in the academic year 1424 AH (2003 AD).
In addition, the Department of Pharmacology established a doctoral program in pharmacology in 1433 AH (2011 AD).

Program Overview
- The Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, was established in the year 1395 AH (1975 AD) with the founding of the college and is one of 22 departments within the College of Medicine.
- Currently, the department consists of 20 faculty members, with 75% of them being Saudi specialists in pharmacology.
- Since its establishment, the department has been responsible for teaching undergraduate students in medicine and surgery, offering courses such as basic pharmacology and pharmacology lectures on organ systems in the third year.
- The department established a Master’s program in Clinical Pharmacology in the academic year 1424 AH (2003 AD), with the first intake of students in 1425 AH (2004 AD), consisting of two female students. The total number of graduates from the Master's program until now has been 22 female students and 21 male students.
- Furthermore, the Department of Clinical Pharmacology established a Ph.D. program in Pharmacology in 1433 AH (2011 AD), commencing admissions in 1438 AH (2016 AD) with two students. The first Ph.D. graduate from the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University, was produced by this program.
Program Objectives
- Provide highly qualified graduates equipped with advanced, deep, and specialized knowledge and skills in Clinical Pharmacology.
- Supply all industrial sectors and scientific institutions in the kingdom with experts in the field of Clinical Pharmacology.
- Strengthen and improve faculty and staff members' abilities.
- Promote academic research in the field of Clinical Pharmacology.
- Encourage effective community cooperation and societal responsibility.
Admission Criteria
- The applicant must have a high grade (for medical and pharmacy graduates) and very good grade (for biochemistry graduates).
- Passing the General Aptitude Test for University Graduates with a minimum score of 65%.
- Obtaining a score of 5 in the IELTS test or its equivalent approved by the College of Science for biochemistry graduates only.
- Obtaining an approval letter from the employer.
- Passing the department's selection exam.
The selection process among the applicants is based on the cumulative GPA (60%) and the score of the entrance examination (40%).

Study Plan
To obtain a Master's degree in Clinical Pharmacology, the student must complete a minimum of 37 credit units, including the Master's thesis, distributed as follows:
- 23 credit units for compulsory courses
- 2 credit units for elective courses
- 10 credit units for the Master's thesis

Objectives
Helping the patient and his family to overcome and solve their health problems in order to achieve the preventive treatment goal and social and psychological stability for the patient through:
- Transferring integrated medical care for children to the Department of Interior and Clinics.
- Contributing to medical education: graduates, doctors, and nursing staff.
- Exchanging medical specialties with different departments.
- Conducting many new news in the field of specialization.
- Treating pediatric patients and following up on their medical conditions.
- Follow up on healthy children and ensure their normal development.
- Treating emergency and urgent medical cases, and putting those in need of treatment to sleep.
- Requires a medical application to learn diagnostic and treatment methods in the specialty of pediatrics.
- Medical graduates’ familiarity with treating children.
- Training skills and specialists in treatment, and qualifying them to obtain fellowships.
