University Honors 7 Doctors and Inaugurates First Website To Raise Ovarian Cancer Awareness
Coincided with the International Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day
King Abdulaziz University, represented by Chair Abdullah Basalamah of the women's Tumors, has organized a ceremony that includes presenting scientific research in the field of medicine, surgery, gynecological oncology with an award of fifty thousand riyals (SR50,000) to the winner, and various events to inaugurate the International Day for Ovarian Cancer that was held in Crowne Plaza Hotel and at the main auditorium of the University Hospital last Wednesday and Thursday 24-25/07/1436.
A Ovarian Cancer symposium was held after the opening ceremony to discuss the importance of early detection and modern methods of treatment.
Meanwhile, Prof. Abdullah Basalamah has opened the official website of the symposium (www.ovariancancer.sa.com) which seeks to contribute to the awareness of ovarian cancer by informing the general public regarding its risks, prevention, and treatment. The official website is in Arabic language to raise awareness of ovarian cancer of which is the main objective of the Chair.
On the second day of the event, a seminar was organized entitled “The Doctor’s care to patients with Gynecological Cancer”. The seminar was presented by the members of Saudi Society for Women’s Tumor, Prof. James Bentley of Canada, and Prof Saad Osoud from United Arab Emirate. The seminar discussed topics on how to improve the healthcare for cancer patients in the Kingdom. This symposium was sponsored by His Excellency the President of the Saudi Society for Ob-Gyne, Prof. Hassan Abdul-Jabbar.
The symposium concluded with providing recommendations including: The need to assess and diagnose patients with ovarian cancer before surgical procedure and to ensure that the treatment will be done locally or to be transferred to a doctor specializing in gynecological cancer. Additional awareness programs for ovarian cancer must be made within the website which is available in Arabic. Physicians are urged to use the website (www.gtdregistry.sa.com) for the registration to facilitate the treatment and provide rapid intervention to avoid complications and to provide chemotherapy if necessary.
